Understanding teams VS groups

What is the difference between teams and groups?

The main difference between teams and groups is that a team is a type of competition, whereas a group is simply a way of grouping participants together.

A team will be composed of a certain amount of participants who are all taking part in the same competition (distance/race), as a team.

A group can be composed of multiple teams but also individual participants, who could all be registered in different competitions (distances/races).

Here are the competition settings to look out for:

A competition must be set to accept either team or individual entries, but no matter which one it is set for, it can always be open to groups.

Team competitions can have a capacity, a team captain and team positions. They always have a team size.

A group just has a group leader.

When participants register in a team competition, they are purchasing their ticket to the race. However, if someone creates a group, they aren’t purchasing a place in the race by doing this. Rather, they are creating a group in which they will be able to then register individual participants and teams into. It’s a way of grouping participants together and is commonly used by corporates, charities or schools.
